I just got back from 2 weeks in the wild west. We hunted southern Colorado again this year during the 2nd Rifle season for elk. Three of us went and we had bull only tags. Did pretty well scoring on 2 out of our 3 tags. This was a DIY hunt, no guides or outfitters. I took my bull at about 8:30 on opening morning. Someone pushed 8 cows, a 6x5 bull and a spike by where I was sitting. I took the bull at 30 yards using my Winchester Model 70 in a .30-06 using the Barnes TSX bullet in a 180 grain. He grosses 271". He broke off his G3 on the left side. If it was the same size as the G3 on the right side he would have been a 280" class bull. Here are some pictures from my trip.
