This morning me and my dad are heading to the Adirondacks for four days for deer and bear. We are going to backpack into the Blue Ridge Wilderness in hopes of getting a big buck, and we will take a bear given the ooportunity. I won't be able to hunt, but am there for the experience and to help him pack out his animal if we get one.

Well we came back tonight, didn't feel the need to unpack camp again just to spend the night there. I wouldn't call what we did hunting, but more of exploring. Learned a lot, saw a scrape and a few rubs, but only spooked up one deer. We did not worry about getting an animal, but just explored with our rifles incase given an opportunity. Now that we got back tonight I will be able to bowhunt in the morning since the school isn't expecting me. So I will be in a stand with high hopes that I will get a shot off at a 7 point I have been seeing just out of range.
New York's restrictions on youth hunters is extremely annoying. You would think with the drop of interest in hunting that they would do a bit more to get the youth interested. Fortunately I will only miss a few days of the our rifle season as my birthday is November 21st.
Blue Ridge Wilderness is around 20 miles from Old Forge, and within a few miles of Raquette Lake. Route 28 borders its top side.
