I'm kinda tempted to take a long run up to Pittsburg just as a day trip to see about a grouse. I haven't been up there in years and years. What are the chances of me driving up there, parking on a back road, and bumping into a grouse or two? Season end is almost here and I wouldn't mind seeing it go out with a BANG! Hopefully on a grouse that actually holds for a dog instead of flushing like a skittish white tail LOL. After that it's preserve season until the snow gets too deep...and that gets expensive

Mike, my camp is in Columbia and I punch em up here and there,,,havent done too much yet, my Lab. wasnt a very good grouse dog...Neely on the other hand will be run like crazy next year! Take a right off rte. 3 onto South Jordan hill rd. in Columbia (at the yellow Columbia Cabins) and follow about a mile up the hill till it opens up, there is an old orchard there where i have put up some grouse with my Lab. and some recent cuts...Roux should find some birds. Give me a call if you want a few more spots. HANK

I've done well in the early season up there. Now the grouse might be a little jumpy for holding points. If this cold continues or if it's windy you will find them in the hemlocks, birds are like deer, they will move to suit the weather. Early season it's swamps and along river beds where the woodcock like to hang out.
Good luck and congrats on being able to get away this close to Christmas. Between decorating the house and shopping I can't do any hunting after the 10th of Dec.
