So I have a couple of buddies that are way hardcore into goose hunting. We are talking about lots of fullbody decoys, laydown blinds, expensive shotshells to the tune of $3.50 per shell, plus a trailer to haul the massive amount of "required" gear. They invited me to tag along yesterday. SO glad I did! The birds and shooting was AWESOME! It was really cool to see 30+ birds land 15 yards away. Ended the day with 18 which I thought was pretty good but these guys said it was "A good day, but it would have been better if we had shot a full limit of 20 birds." I might have found a new addiction!!!

Nice! I've got buddies back in IN that are big into goose hunting. I've been a few times but I just don't have the knowledge to jump into it here. Doesn't mean I don't want to try though. I've never been during the early season. Later on the limit is 2 birds per.

I've never been during the early season. Later on the limit is 2 birds per. I don't know if I would go out later in the year when the limit is 2 birds. It took the 4 of us 2 hours to set up. Doesn't seem worth it to go through all that for 30 seconds of shooting. That day it took us 3 hours to get our 18 birds.

Wow, how big of a spread do they use? I think I've been out 3 times back home, all within a day or two of Christmas. The first time there was 6 of us, the last 2 times there was 4 of us (the last time out though, one guy had to leave for a job interview). With good field access (ATV helps a LOT), it took less than an hour to get set up each time. Tim, the main guy I have hunted with is prostaff for Buck Gardner calls and hunts nearly every day during the winter. He's gone to using a lot of silhouettes for fast set-up/take down with a decent smattering of full-body dekes mixed in. This was from the last time out, r-l; me, Tim, and my Dad. It was Dad's first time goose hunting and it didn't take him long to start pricing layout blinds!
