N.H. Moose Hunt Opening Weekend Brings 32% Success CONCORD, N.H. - Nearly a third of New Hampshire's moose hunters were successful during the first two days of the season, achieving a 32% success rate on the opening weekend of the hunt. On Saturday and Sunday (October 16 and 17), a total of 127 moose were taken by moose hunters statewide - 89 bulls and 38 cows. "Opening day, hunting was hampered by rainy and windy conditions," said Kristine Rines, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department's moose biologist. "But Sunday was pretty much perfect," she noted, with cool temperatures and clear skies in much of the state. The biggest moose so far was a 970-pound bull (dressed weight) with an antler spread of 58 inches, taken on Sunday in WMU-E2 by Leslie Fox of Peterborough, N.H. Fox commented that it was a beautiful day for hunting, with fall foliage still bright and snow-covered Mt. Washington in the distance. New Hampshire's nine-day moose hunt continues through Sunday, October 24, 2010. This year, more than 14,000 people entered the moose hunt lottery for a chance to win one of the 395 permits drawn for the New Hampshire moose hunt. I was hunting grouse and woodcock up in Pittsburg from Saturday until yesterday. I was face to face with Bullwinkle's sister twice. Once my dog started to chase and bay like a hound. I've never heard him make that sound before. I called him back and she just stood there looking at me. That's when her brother stood up and dwarfed her. It is funny to see all the trailers with these huge beasts in back. Many people hanging around the check in station just to watch.
