Hey Mark!...I figured that trophy might draw your attention haha...I got him about 50 feet from where I got the one when we hit the hotspot that day...have you been out yet?...I got your email...I chased 3 that day and only got one good shot...been seeing huge amounts of dead ones in the road...I developed a new technique this year...I have loaded 3 gray squirrel sounds on my cell phone...I flip it open and play em..it has proven to be an incredible locator call...I have had many of them barking up a storm at me...then I let it quiet down a bit and put the stalk on them...works way better then the squeeze type call I have used in the past...I have been studying it all summer on the squirrels in the backyard lol...I am loving that Benjamin Discovery .22, I nailed one with it last week and dropped him cold with a perfect headshot out of a tree...the thing is a tack driver...MkM has the right idea, pot pie it is !!

I have been out once this season, Jim. It was more of a test to see if I could walk in the woods more than anything else. In fact, at the urging of my lovely wife, I didn't even carry any heat with me. As it was, it didn't matter. Two hours of looking around and I saw not a single Gray - not a one! Things seem pretty thin down here, very few Grays around, road kill is rare. I have talked to another hunter up your way and he has seen a fair number of squirrel. A few of them ended in his own pot pie as a matter of fact. Even where I work in Andover, MA not a squirrel is to be seen on the grounds; and they use to be everywhere. I don't know what the reasons are, but down here there is a definite decrease in the bushy-tail population.
Therapy is coming along pretty well. This knee replacement thing has not been a lot of fun, but as I mentioned, it's coming along well enough that I was able to take a hike in one of my usual hunting areas without too much trouble. There are more good than bad days now, with the good days, more often than not, being very good. So far, I'm taking a pass on archery season this year, but whereas I was able last weekend to successfully manage to climb with my tree stand, I suspect I will be in it the morning muzzle season opens. For the month of Oct I plan on being in the woods more and more. I'll be heading up north some looking to fill my game bag with a few bushy-tails. Bear Brook State Park will be one destination for sure. Perhaps I'll check out an area in Bow that I have been wanting to for a while now.
Glad to hear the Benjamin is working out for you so nicely. I still plan on getting one, it'll just be later on now. As it is, I just picked up a new Savage Edge in .243 this week. It's a nice rifle. I haven't yet put a round through it, but hopefully I can get to that this Sunday. I have high hopes for this rifle. I sold off a Savage 110 in .270 and a NEF Handi-rifle in 30.06 just this summer and regretted doing so almost immediately. I have always heard and read good things about the .243 Winchester, so I thought now was a good a time as any to check it out. And so I am.
You keep at those bushy-tails, Jim. It's interesting how you're using your phone as a squirrel locater.
