Featured On: MyFoxBoston Say it ain't so Bill Belichick and Scott Pioli. The Patriots reportedly have some interest in bad boy cornerback Pacman Jones.
A story written in the Nashville Tennessean on Saturday March 8th concerning Tennessee Titans suspended cornerback Adam Pacman Jones says that Jones , if he is reinstated to play in 2008 by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, wants to be traded to the Dallas Cowboys. The story goes on to say that several other teams have shown "some level of interest" in talking to the Titans about Jones and that the Patriots are one of those teams.
NO!, NO!, NO!. Can I be any clearer with my opinion on this? Jones is an immature young adult with no respect for authority and even less respect for women in general. Jones list of problems with the law are many (see list below compiled by the Boston Herald). This is a 24 year old elite athlete who is very talented but simply has no regard for rules, regulations for the law and furthermore has no respect for women. Look closely at his incidents and you'll see that he has "slammed a woman’s head to the dance floor at a strip joint" and also spit in a woman’s face and been accused of doing that another time.
Could the Patriots use an elite cornerback in the wake of Asante Samuel's departure to Philadelphia? Most definitely. But not this guy. You may also want to point out that the Patriots have acquired players with checkered pasts before: Rodney Harrison, Corey Dillon and Randy Moss just to name a few. True, but Harrison, Dillon and Moss are choir boys compared to young Pacman Jones. And also those three players had all played a decade, or close to it, in the NFL before they came to New England. Pacman Jones has played less than two seasons.
Some players deserve a second chance. Pacman Jones will surely get one, just don't let it happen in New England.
Your thoughts.
