good luck, MK-M! We are heading up around 9:30 am tomorrow. Should arrive around 11 am. Going to camp, unpack gear, change and head into the woods to try and locate a buck or 2 for this weekend! I cannot wait to get back up on that MAGICAL ridge!

Well I sure hope your trip was better than mine! I got out opening morning only to hear at 9am that my uncle needed help, help that is with flipping his wheeler over. It fell out of his truck on his way in to his stand. Smashed the crap out of the speedometer, choke, winch controls and bent the handlebars down (photos to come). He was pretty lucky it did bounce of the power line road and over the cliff. If it did that, his wheeler would still be there today. On my way to help him, I had a real hard time getting to him on my own rig. Tried several time but just couldn’t get up to him. I ended up flipping mine but not nothing like his. Mine was top heavy coming down the hill and slowly flipped over me and almost rolled over me and pinning me to a boulder. I got it off me without it trapping me and because of the hill incline; it was easy to flip up right. I ended up using my winch to pull me up and over a steep rock ledge that I only did as a last resort. If my winch cable broke, I was done for it and my rig would have got about 200 feet down the mountain side. I’m getting too old for that kind of stuff anymore. Second day I saw nothing and was getting pretty frustrated with getting the crap scared out of me with grouse taking off. So I spotted one about 15 to 20 yards away, I put my 30-30 peep sight to the test. Put it on his head and took the shot! I thumped it right in the neck and never ruined the breast meat. Later that night I pan fried it with beacon and ate it. My last night there I took my brother deershed to a spot behind our camp. Around 3:30 I looked to my left and had a nice buck 50 yards away running down through the cut. Not need to look for points with this one, I shouldered my gun and did my best to pick a good shot. I took it running through some brush but didn’t connect. I know I had him in the scope (which was on 4 power) but the way I shoot, I could have not seen the small stuff. I did my best for the situation but know I could have done better with my 30-30 or at least something with out a scope. With my 30-30 I know I could have put 3 or 4 rounds in him. So, can you guess what gun I’m now in the market for? I’m looking to get Remington 750 WoodMaster in the 30-06 Sprg. Carbine with a Williams’s peep sight. I’m no longer going to messing around deer hunting with a scoped rifle in NH or VT. Well, I still might if I’m hunting an open field or hardwoods where I can see 250 yards in all directions. My NH/VT style of hunting is better suited for a deer rifle I can be on target half way to my shoulder. I’ll probably head back up there in the muzzle loader season and see if I can finish our next encounter better than I did Monday evenings. Masshntr, would you care to join me when I head back? I can try and get the camp if you wanted to go. No sleeping in the bed of your truck and me in the driver’s seat

First of all, I am glad you are ok after that wheeler fiasco! Second, I saw 1 deer on my way into my stand on Saturday morning.....Doe! Heard a ton of shooting all around us! Rained like a banshee Saturday night and Sunday morning. Alarm went off at 4 30 am on Sunday , but after listening to the rain on top of the cabin I shut it off and slept in til 7. Saw nothing on Sunday. I want to get back up there maybe one day this weekend or for the late bow season. I saw tons of deer sign! weather didnt help.
