Made the shot this time.
Had to get to it this Easter moring as Dan an I had little time to get a hunt in. We were on stand at 7:45 and Dan was doing the calling with his new WT. Dan had the caller and himself in the edge of the thick stuff. I was up wind on the edge of the cover and a clear cut. Hard wind at my back and the morning sun in front of me. I was 100yds from Dan. The caller goes off and Dan was doing his thing. Good mix of distress and coyote sounds.
I was looking in the cut when on my right I saw the coyote go by me. No more then 40 yds on a rise. Went by a opening and made my heart jump. It was way off from were I was thinking the coyotes would come from. It had the wind at its back and the sun in its face. I moved my T/C contender to the point of the rise and the clear cut and waited. It was a wild thing to see it come into the scope from my right. Walk right out to the edge of the cut. My heart was pounding, when the crosshairs hit the shoulder I pulled the trigger. The coyote jumped high in the air and took off. I saw it go to my right and was thinking MISS. The barrel on my Contender is a 6.8 Rem SPC and loaded with Barnes TSX 110 bullets.
At the shot Dan went to coyote sounds and I waited for the caller to end. No other coyotes. Walked to Dan and we went over to the spot were the coyote came out. Nothing, What the, I was looking for a lot of blood on the snow and there was none. We walked close to were I was on stand and there she was. Yeah!
Little blood the Barnes went in just back of the shoulder small hole, on the other side a hole the size of a half dollar. She was about 70 yds from the place I hit her.
