Well if I say "don't shoot them", I am a treehugger. If I say "one shot with a scattergun will take them both", I am heartless. If we listen to the bioligists they tell us the Yo-te will have a larger litter to offset the loss of the pups. So killing them won't really have a impact on the deer and turkeys.
One at a time with a 22. Leave the carcass in the field and mom will come to investigate. Then it's her turn. Makes sense to me.

If you value the wild game in your area kill them. Twenty-two seems the most humane way to take them out. Then go for the mother.

Well tonight I made my decesion. There were two does in the field and three pups were sneaking up on them. Both does were rearing back and pawing at them. A third doe cam BOLTING out of the woods followed by a adult coyote. The does took off and a second adult and antother pup came out of the woods. They layed down in the grass panting hard. If I had to guess they had been chasing that doe HARD.
I am going to talk to F&G tommorow to make sure it is leagle to use a rifle in this town if its not for deer (i belive it is but I want to make sure) If so I am going to talk to the land ower and if ok with him the 270 is comming out. If not I will borrow a .22 and if not I will use my bow.
WAR has been delcared!!!!!!

I don't know what town you are in, but it should be legal to take coyotes with a rifle even in towns that don't allow rifles for deer.A warden said that restriction is only for deer hunting.

The comment about firearm restrictions are only applicable to deer is not true. Many towns have laws restricting rifle calibers for all game animals.
My suggestion would be use a rifle if legal and if not a shotgun with #4 buck which will do well out to 50 yards and/or a 22 mag if you have one in the safe. I feel very confident with my 22 mag almost to a 100 with a 3x9 scope and a stopped animal. With that kind of density I would sneak in with the wind right and set up and call them in and have the shotgun handy, and if you have a buddy with a 22 mag or shotgun handy invite them along.

One down several to go.
Took my 12ga deer gun tonight. Wind was right at the beginning and started calling using a mouse ( they have been mousing the last several nights).
One adult and one pup started putting the sneak on me they got to with in 40 yards when the wind changed and she winded me. SHe stoped , turned and started the other way. I wacked the pup let loose on the big one. DOnt think I hit her and found no blood.
We will see what tommorow brings

I just happened to be reading my hunting regs yesterday to confirm something and also came across the regs for "shotgun only" towns and coyotes. On page 19 in the 05-06 book, it states you can only use .22 rim fire, shotgun, muzzle loader or archery equipment. Sounds like you're off to a good start though, good luck with the rest of the pack.
