Mine is a city girl and didn't understand the thrill I got from being in the woods. She thought it was mean to kill cute fuzzy things until I brought home a Fox. She saw the excitement in me and was glad for me. They come around after a while.

Welcome to NHW&W. You have to tell her you are out there saving "BAMBI" from a horrible death. You'll be a hero then! I don't know sounds good. If you can get her to take the first photo of you and your coyote and she sees that smile on your face. She'll know that you in the woods is a "Good Thing" Highwaystar

My wife isn't anti-hunting, but she isn't for it either. She tolerates our interest and says she respects our desire to hunt. I've been trying to get her out on a hunt this year. I'm sure once she shot a coyote or fox, she'd be hooked, and I don't think she'd have a problem with killing a turkey.

My wife sometimes has a hard time with my hunting habit. But she see how much I really do love animals and how excited I get just to see a deer, bear or hare. She asked me "If you get so excited over a deer, bear, coyote, or chipmunk for that matter, how come you like killing them?" My answer:"I love being in the woods, love seeing any critter God put on this earth, and I love to hunt. It is the desire to hunt that is still left in some of us from are pre-historic ancestors. The desire to hunt, not kill. Harvesting an animal puts meat on the table in most cases and it is after the shot that the work begins. When the animal is down I alway treat it as if it were a friend, with respect. It is necessary to harvest some to keep the herd within the carrying capacity of the land, to keep the rest heath and strong so they don't die a slow death from disease or starvation."

That's what my wife always says. "If you love animals so much, why do you want to kill them?" She's a right wing conservative, but unfortunately, Disney got to her early in life and she has that Bambi mentality.

I have had to cut down four tree in the last 5 years around my house because my cats climb them to get away from the coyotes. Once up there they will not come down. The last one was up there for four days before I found her and cut the tree down. Wild ride for the cat but she is still with us. We lost one cat to the 'Yotes and so have a couple of our neighbors. My wife has seen them in the yard many times and as many of you know, I shot one last March 1st from just outside my basement slider. It was on the ice on the beaver pond behing my house. They will kill your pets if they get the opportunity and last weekend my Wife and I found a second coyote killed (and eaten) deer within 1/4 mile of our house. My .22-250 is alway handy.
