I kind of cheated because I didn't have to call this one in. Thursday, March 01, 2007: I let the dogs out this morning when Rusty woke me up at 5:50 a.m. (Rusty is our 7-1/2 year old Cocker Spaniel and Tucker is our 6 month old Lab mix). They were not out 45 seconds and came running back to the door, barking to come in. I let them in, fed them and look out the window at about 6:00 and there was a coyote out on the beaver pond. I didn’t even have any clothes on yet, but went down cellar, grabbed my Savage .22-250, slipped out the slider, slipped a round in and let one go. Down the Yote went at about 150- 160 yards. That’s too close to the house with the pets. Like that would matter, right. It was a 34.5 pound female. She wasn’t skinny or anything, but the pelt probably is useless as the .22-250 put about a 2” exit hole in the shoulder on the off side

I like that "Anywhere, anytime, anyhow!!!" attitude. I couldn't have said it better myself. I'm fortunate to live several miles out on a dirt road with only one house beyond me (the neighbors shoot also) and lots of woods. We have 30 acres and about a 5-6 acre beaver pond off the back lawn. My wife has her office in the house and often tells my that she often gets visited by coyotes when she is working. Once one was right on the lawn outside her office window. NOT WHEN I'M AROUND! Wife doesn't shoot though and would shoot one anyways. She things they look to much like a dog. We lost a cat one and so did the neighbor. Rusty woke me up in the middle of the night once, growling and there was a Yote on the back lawn between the house and the pond. I took a couple of pictures after I put it in a bag and carried it back to the house. Maybe too bloody to post. If not I'll post them sometime this weekend.

Yup it works.
Road hard put away wet, tough old girl. Luck the 22-250 smoked her. ;D She is a sleek looking coyote.

Way to go! Great story. That’s a rush to shoot one from your house. A female scarred up on her face this time of year probably got run off by another female.

That makes sense. Other than that she looked healthy enough. Been keeping an eye out, but haven't seen anymore. Figured perhaps a male might come looking for her. All the effort I've put into making an E-caller and making it a remote with a Nady wireless mic system and I shoot one in my back yard. Go figure! Anyway, that's the first fur I've shot at with the .22-250 and it did the job. Now it's paid for. That's my rule of thumb for a firearm. As soon as it does it's job the purchase was justified and a good investment.
