Who ready for Saturday? ;D Each year with the smoke pole I like to try someplace new for the morning opener so other than deciding where that will be, I'm ready ;D I've sat down with the map the past few evenings and have a good idea where I'd like to go. It would be nice if I were to take a ride up there this morning/afternoon to see how accessible it is. Maps don't show posters so I need to be sure I'm not wasting time getting there in the morning. I hope everyone heading out has their guns sighted and gear ready! Good luck and be safe ;D

You could still hunt the morning right? As far as rain goes, I hope it does rain! That tends to keep the "knuckle heads" out of the woods ;D Quiet for walking in and keeps what scent I give off down. Went and checked out a new spot for Saturday. It going to be a hike to get in where I want to go but I should see action. Talked to the owner and he told me a lot about the lay of the land and trails to use to get up to the saddle. He also told me where they tend to see all the deer / bear when hiking their property. He said just yesterday while they were taking a morning hike behind the farm, they saw a bear and a total of nine deer up in the draw / saddle I'm looking to hunt. I asked if any of them were bucks and he didn't know. The only buck he knows that's defiantly around is one they see coming into their lower pasture at night. He's not a hunter so getting information of how big it is was useless! All he knew was, it has a rack. Rain or shine it should be a great hunt! Hopefully while everyone is walking in from the bottom to hunt the mountain, I'll be starting in the middle (close to the top) waiting

I plan on going out next weekend. Meadowbrook knows a guy in Weare who owns a bunch of land and the deer go in his yard and raise havoc, he also has a bear coming in and ripping down his bird feeders. From what Meadowbrook tells me, this guy is an X-marine and one time chased off the bear with a knife.

Good lucks guys!! A light rain is always a blessing come hunting. The last 2 years down here in Md. we got rain the second day of the early ml season. It wasn't too bad this year but, last year we had alittle lightning and thunder too.The rain does tend to weed the wanna be hunters out.

A little rain isn't bad, but they are talking up to 3 inches of rain, 40-50 mph wind all day long, before sunup til dark. Sunday high winds. Good luck if you go, I was out in a tree last night, didn't see anything but got a bit sea-sick with all the swaying. At times I couldn't have shot anyway, with the tree moving, I couldn't have kept the pin within 10 feet of any deer that came by

Yeah, I did see the forecast for the rains & winds I can deal with the rain myself but those winds are what's going to scare a lot of hunters. Thought I saw it's suppose to start mid-morning? I'll have to catch an up to date forecast on the news tonight. With the rain & wind I'll probably do more still hunting than standing so I might bounce a nice one up close ;D I'm hunting the east side of the mountain so that might will be the golden ticket for me as far as the wind goes. I just might be protected a little little bit from the mountain side ;D Either way, I'll my butt will be out there trying to make something happen. Seems like if I stay home, I'll hear about someone that killed a good one or how the deer were moving a lot. I'd kick myself in the butt for not at least trying! Good luck everyone and be safe

Well, let just say it wasn't one of my better opening mornings It was raining when I woke up! Raining when I got to my hunting spot! Raining while I was hunting and still raining when I got home around 12:45. I was out all morning (6 hours of being wet) and saw four 4 total, three does and one small spike. Could have taken any one of them but passed. As wet as I was, I was going to take anything off that mountain I couldn't grab by the rack. By the time I got back to my truck it felt just like turkey season in VT again! My Lacrosse boots had five inches of water in them. Did I mention it was raining? Gun's all cleaned and my cloths are drying for in the morning. Speaking of cloth drying and getting wet! If anyone is looking to buy rain gear, STAY AWAY from the WhiteWater wet suits! I mean rain gear. If you must have it? Email or PM me and I'll sell you mine cheap ;D

With the rain & wind I'll probably do more still hunting than standing so I might bounce a nice one up close ;D Well, I called it the day before ;D but fail to execute a good shoot tonight I was working a bog edge that backs up to old cut off which is thick and loaded with whippets. I was keeping the wind in my face the best I could (seeing it was all over the place) while working through the old cut off. Taking my time and keep my eyes ahead for anything trying to slip away. I guess I was looking too far ahead because I jumped this buck tonight less than five yards way He startled me good too! Long enough to miss my first good opportunity to shoot him. I thought I had another good opening but apparently it wasn't as good as I thought After looking for a while I worked my way out and ran into another hunter. He said he looked to his left and saw the buck bolting out of the thick stuff too late to get off a shot. The distance we were from each other, he should have heard my shot and even the deer coming through the brush. It was just windy to hear thing and even for stand hunting. Oh well, I'll get another chance to redeem myself
