Looks like a nice set up. I will be after the crows this week. I have only taken a few this year, but hopefully that will change over the next few days. I have pretty much the same gear. Three crow decoys, one owl, and the FX3.

cool, i set the owl out with the crow at its feet and let the fx3 rip...in that particular hunt they just bombed in hell bent to brawl, came in low and loud, i nailed 3 in the first wave then got 1 more over the water, got 4 out of five birds that came in...sometimes i just use the fx3 on top of the camo backpack, its about invisible in a corn field which i think holds the birds cuz they hear the noise but cant find it.

The FX3 certainly brings in the crows. Hopefully I will be able to get out this afternoon, but I might not be able to as I am pretty busy today . The crows have a flight path that comes right over our farm. Normally I call in around 50 crows in 45 minutes of calling, but I have trouble getting them to come low enough for a shot. That is why I bought the owl decoy, hopefully that will get them low enough.

THANKS FIRE!...2 things i did that increased my crow kill heavily was to get the e-caller and also a semi shotgun. before i used a pump or o/u, the semi allows you to unleash fast n furious which is VIP on the first incoming wave of birds. e-callers unbeatable on crows...i am planning on loading the Bob A. soft sounds this year and try some decoy shooting to mix up the run n gun lifestyle.

lemme know how Bob's sounds work out for ya. Maybe we should hook up for a hunt so I can see for myself... I'm a huge fan of dekes. I don't often go out all day so I try and make my 2 or 3 setups as productive as possible.

I on the other hand...dont use decoys much......mayhap we can get together and see what happens....it be nice to have some calm relaxed birds come in...BUT i have had em all wound up and got some in your face shooting on the aggressive calls. maybe this fall when they flock up big we should invite a bunch of the guys on here for a good ole crow shoot!...gotta be careful though its mighty addicting!

what calling do you use when your decoys are set up?

in the past I've gone with the Johnny Stewart tapes. I have "fighting crows" and "mobbing crows" and they seem to work well. The dekes seem to get them in lower and looking around instead of keying right in on the call, which is right near my position due to the short speaker wire. I just picked up a new e-call that uses sound cards made by JS and it seem to work well on the Missouri crows we were calling. They were flying a little too high for the most part and we didn't have any decoys so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. My favorite set up is to set the owl up on a post and tie a dead crow hanging from the owls feet. I also spread out my crow dekes around in an open area to keep them interested. They seem to come into this very vocal which I prefer over them just sneaking into my spread. My new caller has "crow distress" and "crow owl fight" along with "reville" and "excited crows" so i'm excited to see how that will work on the local birds.
