In ten years hunting my Lab. Tama never once did he get quilled...havent even hunted Neely yet, just took him for a training run but he decided to bolt and smooch a juvenile stickpig. Hopefully he learned a lesson but man does it suck pulling pin quills out of a scared dogs nose and mouth...yuck. Hank

Sorry to hear about your pup. I heard that if you cut the ends off of the quills, that this releases some of the barbs and helps pulling them out. Making it much less painful. Not sure if its true, but worth a shot.
Porky tastes great BTW...

Thanks E.C There is a monster of a porky at my camp up in Columbia, sumbitch is gnawing at the siding on the back...good 50 lbs. Hope I run into him first, dont need a quilled dog up there. You are more than welcome to run a trapline up there for him and whatever else is running around. Still gotta get together so you can show me the fine art of trapping if you get a chance and want some company, I am only 10 minutes from Dunbarton. HANK

Try getting a young coonhound quilled not once...but twice in one night. Sweet corn!...attracts the coon...and the pockies I carry a Leatherman on my coon belt, I don't care how much it hurts em...yank em out and make it no fun. If you ask me, they need to learn. Part of hunting in NH LOL. Be sure to keep checking him all over for a month or so...you'd be surprised how quills just resurface...sometimes months later.
