I went ATV shopping today. Does anyone have a particular atv that they think is best and maybe why? I looked at Hondas and Artic cats today. I drove a Polaris 400 last week and that seemed to go pretty good in the woods. This was the first time I ever drove a 4 wheeler. The Artic Cat dealer had one 2006 500 automatic left and a decent sale price on it. Any suggestions? Thanks Charlie

We bought a Honda 450 5 or more years ago. It has worked great with no real break downs to speak of. A week ago it reached the 5,000 mile mark. My dad did crash it into a a big metal pole once. Taking a calf to a stall and the calfs head hit the throttle when he was opening a gate. A new metal rack and replacement plastic made it look as though it never happened.

Hard to pick just one brand seeing they all make good four wheelers now a days. I picked my Honda Rancher for its size and turning ability! I can taken mine way back in the bigs woods around here or VT and get a deer out with out any problems. Guys in our VT camp are shocked each and every time someone gets a deer. If I were to buy another one tomorrow? I'd go again with a Honda Rancher AT or a Kawasaki 750. My buddy has one and they are one bad mean machine ;D Had his going to the checking station on day doing 70mph on the hard top. Crazy? I know but if could see how that puppy handles on the roads you wouldn't think so. Back in WV we use them on the backwoods trails, around the camp or to go to the store for more beverages. We can ride them on any state road down there as long as you have a valid drivers license, a helmet and a horn Kinda big for the woods up here but it goes back to what you want it for. Best advice is look into the turning radius and ground clearance for when you're back deep in the woods. Honda has the turning radius, Artic Cat has the ground clearance and Kawasaki has the power! (if that's what you want)

I have been thinking about getting a fourwheeler for a while also. The only thing that is stopping me is there is not alot of places to ride them anymore. it is an expensive toy to have and not be able to use alot!!

There's a place in Antrim or Hillsboro off of Rt. 9 that has a lot of trails. Do you know where the soft served ice cream place is just before the entrance to Franklin Pierce Lake? Well, the people that run that store own the trails and they would be able to tell you more about it. The parking for the trails are right at the store on the far right. I do have to agree with you that there's not a lot of places to ride them The state has about 6 ATV parks/placed for riding but half the time their closed or under repair. I put more miles on mine in one day when I'm in our WV camp than I do all season up here in NH. We go on "poker runs" which some times is an all day trip adding up to over 100 miles round trip. It's a lot of fun just getting out and riding that far. Wish it was like that around here!

That's one of the reasons I'm not jumping into this to fast. The other reason is there are several pros and cons of each type of ATV that keeps me thinking which is the best to buy. There are a few trails open to ATVS around Cornish and Claremont. Most of my hunting spots I just head out on foot and really don't need a ATV but one would be nice to haul out a deer.

I very very seldom use my ATV to go hunting here in NH. Usually it sits at home or on my truck in case I need it to get a deer or bear out of the woods. Most of the property I hunt on, only allow me to use the ATV for getting a deer out, which I like. You should defiantly look into a Honda for dependability.

Honda was the first one I looked at and the model I was interested in was the 400 Rancher AT. It still haunts me. I look at the others and I still think about the Honda. The Rancher doesn't have independent suspension. Does yours ride pretty good?

don't forget about Polaris! they are some pretty mean machines and they are priced better than Honda. actually, anything is priced better than Honda. I do agree that they are Great machines, but when price is a issue, there are cheaper priced machines!!

The honda is very dependable. Ours is meant for farm work and tops out at around 50. I go average about 35 and 40 on straight a ways, but most of my riding is done in the open fields. I used ours to do a bit of clean up after an ice storm. It was great, went where no truck or tractor could and was able to pull whole trees and large branches out of the way with a logging chain. I was amazed at what it could do. It is also great for lawn work. It is also very stabile.
