So I'm thinking of upgrading my shotgun after turkey season to a Mossberg 835 Tactical Turkey. Anyone have any experience with this gun or 835's in general? I really like the way the gun feels and I especially like the adjustable stock. Please give me your opinions on them if you have them.

Dano,
Although the mossberg is a lower end gun you cant go wrong with an 835 for a turkey gun. I would not want to shoot 5 or 6 thoushand rounds a year through the gun but if you are going to hunt with it only it is probabaly the best gun out there for the money.

Well Regnar thanks for the input. I've never really heard anything bad about Mossberg and I've been looking at this one for a while.

Well, hear is a bad one. Just about 20 years ago I got my fist mossgerg 12 ga. with poly choke. My dad and I took it out and shot it to get ready my fist try phasants. I bought the gun at Service Merchendice in Dover NH about 1987. Well, after about the 3rd shell in the new gun the barrel had about a 3 inch crack in it where it meets the reciever. The store gave us a new barrel but It sat in the safe until about eight years ago when I got a great a deal on a winchester 1300 combo. I will never buy another mossberg product or allow any family member to own one. I understand this may of been a rare occorance and mossburg makes alot of guns but this just where I stand with their product.

I don't own one nor would I ever buy one myself. My buddy Raymond bought his 835 years ago (back in 1993 I think) and he still to this day hunts turkeys with. It shoots a hell of a pattern and has taken a lot of turkeys over the year without the gun ever failing him. The only issue I have with any Mossberg is the pump. Every one I've ever picked up has had a lot (some with 1/2" of slop) of play in the pump, way too much play for me to go out and buy one. I personally can't stand using up a pump shotgun with a sloppy noisy pump on it. Now it's been awhile since I've touched a Mossberg so maybe they fixed that since then. The few people I know that have a Mossberg, all love their gun and should if that's what they hunt with. Like I said, my buddies is a real nice shooter and he's been happy for years with it. If you like it and your comfortable with it, go for it

I agree with MK-M-Gobl, I hate mossberg's because of they play they have in their slide. I can't believe how loose some of them are. I haven't found one gun, old or new, that is quiet or tight. I'm sure many people love them, but many people love Ford's too, haha. They work but I just don't trust them to get the job done every time. My friend has the 835 and loves it but he's always had mossberg and I could always tell when he was coming through the woods with his shotgun. They make a lot of noise. I would get an 870 turkey gun, they are really nice. Good luck with your decision!

I have one and it's my first. So far so good.
I went to ford after my last 3 Chevy's were crappy!

Every one I've ever picked up has had a lot (some with 1/2" of slop) of play in the pump I have a Mossberg 12 gauge in the 500. I love it and one of the reasons I chose it was because its pump does not move or make a sound when you bump it. I am sure most of theres do, but if you look around a bit you should be able to find one that doesn't. I forget the exact price but it was brand new, didn't cost much, complete camo, and came with a slug barrel. For some reason I have $375 in my head. I do like the higher end guns better, but this patterns fine, holds nice, and cost a lot less. It has a bad kick, but I don't notice anymore.

I am on my second 835 and I love them. I've never had a problem with them. I beat them up pretty good and they've always gone bang when I needed them to. You can't go wrong with a Mossberg

i have a mossberg 835 thats my turkey gun mainly, 3 1/2 inch fiocchi #5, 2 3/8 oz shot, that turkey cannon lays down the law when you let er rip. def is sloppy on the pump, and i do most other hunting with my o/u or m2000 semi, but for turkeys and all around reliability im trictly an 835 man, they are pretty well known for a wicked pattern with the factory mossberg turkey choke. i also have a polychoke for mine.

as far as the sloppy pump....i was goose hunting with my 835 and when i went to rack a 2nd shot my danged glove got caught up in the pump slide and bound everyhting up and i had to actually wiggle my hand out of the glove then mess with it a bit to free the glove material from the pump slide.

Cracked choke in my mossberg 835.........when I first got it I never saw the microscopic lettering on the factory choke so I shot steel through it and when I was cleaning it one night found this:
