I had an order to get out today so I started it after roosting this morning. I heard a hen tree yelping (a long with other gobbles) and boy did she sound like the Boss Hen of that roost. So after packaging up the order, I decide to play around with a new double reed cut to match the boss hen I heard an hour ealier. After a few snips and a custom trim here and there, I had a pretty decent looking call. I took it outside on the porch and ran her in the front yard to see how it sound in the woods. I've got a little tweaking to do seeing she's a little tough to cut and purr on but now the yelps she puts out! She sounds like a 75 year old heavy smoker ;D I'm almost afraid that a gobbler is going to think she's too old to anything! It's the raspiest call I've put out I'm going to try lighter latex to see if that helps with the cutting & purring and I'm also going to try a different call with 2.5 reeds. I need something new for this season

That sounds cool Tom. Nothing like replicating mother nature! I hear a lot of guys tell me they don't like a lot rasp, but I have gotten a lot of response from on 'ol raspy boss hen. I will be interested in your field testing this season.
I like to have options in my vest. I have noticed that some of your calls can do everything "widow maker" comes to mind, while others strictly do good yelps. Others purr better. That triple reed with diagonal split v and brown tape is a tough mother to run. I thought I was getting pretty good, but I need a few more hours on that sucker. Seems like it needs a lot of air to run.
I really like the Widow and the new yet to be named yellow bat wing with the navy blue tape because they are really easy to operate and I can do numerous vocalizations on each. Boy can those two cut like a son of b! I think every person is different with how they can operate a call, so what works well for one may not for another. With all the calls I have ordered from you I know that I could sound like a whole heirum of different hens. The only thing I have to figure out is how to play multiple mouth calls with one mouth??! LOL

I'm one of those guys that don't like a lot of rasp..a little, but not like a 75 year old smoker ;D If I'm in a situation where I have to work the boss to piss her off to have her drag tommy my way, I want to sound like a younger hen, so she's confident she can kick my ass. Kinda like using a younger set of deer antlers for rattleng! LOL!
