I wish, fur prices are still down, averaging 20.00 for beaver and 50.00 for otter. I think the castor is bringing 100.00/lb but I'm not sure. I do have a couple of pounds to sell. Basically, I break even when you figure gas and time, but I get up early look for birds, then go check my line. I use to sell green, but the price of that is so low it isn't worth it, in my opinion.

Nice beaver... is that considered a jumbo by the fur market? Looks it in the pic. I heard they have been getting nearly as much for muskrat as they are for coon/fox. Truth? If so, thats wild. Hope you are able to get in on that action. Looks like a nice haul from your trap line. Love the pics. Oh... question... how often do you see a beaver with a split tail like that? I'd imagine it would take quite the hit to split one of those tails. Those things are tough.

Craig, I'm not sure what size it will be until I get it on a board, but that would be my guess. The pelt is huge. A lot of beavers have damage tails. They get them from fighting. Beavers are very territorial. One of the things that we use to catch them is castor on mounds of mud. Muskrats are bringing a good price, but I don't target them. I have a few on stretchers. They make great bait for the fall. Sometimes they get damage when swimming through a 330 or 280.
Thanks nastygunz I'm hoping that my back holds up. It sure is great to be back in action. I'm going to get my fur worked up and get ready for the gobbler season.

Oh boy... how did I not pick up on that as I was writing it. Yeah, I've spent a lot of money and time chasing the elusive split tail beaver. Happy to be married and have those days behind me... (no Becky isn't looking over my shoulder )
