Has anyone bought or had a custom rifle made?
From what I have read, many custom rifles use Winchester Model 70 receivers and bolts. They put graphite barrels on them, custom triggers, and a synthetic stock.
I have a Model 70 (post 64). It shoots great, but i have been thinking about having it customized. Any one know of reputable companies that do this?

There is a guy out in Arizona that builds and works on all kinds of rifles. He can do all kinds of stuff.
He has been featured in Magazines. He builds crazy good Ar's to.
Carey custom rifles. I know him a little as we have talked on the phone hear and there.
Look him up.

A lot depends on what you are wanting out of the rifle. There's many custom guns also built on Mauser actions too. What are you wanting to do to the rifle? There's a LOT of gunsmiths out there, some are capable, some aren't. You probably knew that though. I've never gone down the road you are looking at, but I've got a couple of places I can pass on, depending on what you want done. One is right here in NH but the wait time will be long.

The only thing custom I can afford is something i did the customizing on!!
Have a friend who hunts elk a lot and he has a Christensen Arms rifle. He loves it. Light weight and VERY VERY accurate. Not sure what he paid but I think it was around 4,000.
Another I would love to have is one made by Ken Jarrett. I have seen them but never shot one. Great looking guns that shoot lights out.
If you are just looking for a barrel you might want to get a hold of gary Schneider of Schneider Rifle Barrels. I dont believe he has a web sight ( I could not find one) but a lot of Long range shooters use his barrels including the best of the the best. The USMC Snipers use Schneider barrels on their rifles.
