I heard a rumor that the state might abandon the pheasant program. Has anyone else heard this?

Wouldn't surprise me at all. They abandoned the deer program 10 years ago. Al@THO THO Game Calls www.thogamecalls.com

Not sure why they would, the pheasant program is pretty much self-funding through stamps. Land to plant pheasants on might be an issue in some areas.

I would be awful surprised if they dropped the program this year. They are selling pheasant stamps, which to me says that the program will at least make it through the coming year. It wouldn't surprise me if there is talk of whether the program will continue. One thing that they must consider, how much the birds cost, and what it cost to put the birds out. I know my friend was paying $25.00 for an adult bird. He was using them to train his springer. I'm sure the state pays less, but I can't imagine that your $16.00 covers the complete cost of the program. Just my two scents.

It would be a shame if they ended it as it is a great way for new hunters to enter the sport.
I will usually take a few stocked birds, but I prefer wild birds myself and woodcock and grouse are not to hard to find with my Springer. Good open land is the key.
