I caught 2 pickerel on the fly rod this weekend, and while landing one a northern water snake attacked the fish, they are VERY aggressive.

Looks like a Milk Snake, they can be aggressive. but they aren't poisonness. They can get to be 5 feet long.

Yupp they do look a bit alike...the older really big ones get really dark, almost black, which helps them absorb heat from the sun to warm up from being in the water....one snake ive always been on the lookout for and never seen in the wild is an eastern hog nosed snake...sposed to be some around NH/VT but i have never seen one my whole life.
