I was asking Bill Oikle, who writes in the Hawkeye and def knows his guns, who was a good gunsmith as I have had a few bad moments with the local ones and he recommended this fella, figured id post it for anyone on NHWW: ---------- Jim, The best gunsmith around is Ray Simard of Peterborough. All the guys at Nashua fish and Game use him for thier gunsmith. Highly recommended. His phone no. is 563-8359. He lives just off 101 just west of Peterborough center. Bill

There are very few good "general" gunsmiths out there but I hear this guy is one of them. Being a former gunsmith myself, it is very difficult to make any money doing general gunsmithing. I struggled big time until I focused only on building custom Ruger 10/22s, Remington 700s and S&W revolvers. Then I made good money but I was so specialized on those, I kind of lost track of everything else I used to do. Also, once you pass 45, diminishing eyesight makes gunsmithing difficult and I've had to give it up for that reason. In fact I have a half restored Winchester 94 if anyone wants to take over and finish that project. I'll sell it at a very reasonable price.
