I'm going to be getting a new DSLR in the very near future and was wondering what the more experienced wildlife/nature photographers here are using. I'm getting more interested in hunting with a camera than a gun, and my wife is tickled pink about that. Right now it's a toss up between the Canon XSi and the 40D. Both will also be used for astro-photography either piggy backed on or looking through my telescope. The one main difference I see between the two is the faster 6.5 frames per second with the 40D vs "only" 3.5 with the XSi. The price difference isn't too big of a deal as long as the added features of the 40D are actually useful. The XSi runs about $900 with the kit, 18-55mm lens. While the 40D is about $1200 for the body only or $1500 with the 28-135mm zoom.
Thanks, Jeff

I've got the Canon 20D and love it! That is until my brother messed with my camera setting Looked into getting an 800mm lens for it found out it cost about the same price of two four wheelers $11,999.99 My videoing deal with someone local doesn't seem like it's going to happen Long story but I'm really not willing to give up my hunting locations. Would love to upgrade to a nicer zoom lens for my Canon 20D but I believe I'll be put my money towards a videoing set up I'll be sticking with the Canon on that purchase as well! They make good stuff

Tom,
I know exactly what you are saying. I had a similar deal with him to go to Ohio with him. But he wanted to video around here before we went. NOT!!!
Good luck and if you need an beginner to video I will be glad to if as soon as I get a bird.
p.s. if you need help with the camera let me know.
