Stopped by a bridge over a small stream yesterday evening and was glassing the field looking for early evening deer, and I just happened to look down into the water, what there was of it, and there in the only deep pool left under the bridge were a dozen or so fish. Brookies! they couldn't go up or downstream, the water must have been 100 degree's, but there they were. I always keep a 3wt. in the truck, just in case, and I tied on a real small hopper (18) and just dropped it in. It was like watching Blues go through a school of bait. I probably could have used a clouser and they would have nailed it. I caught half a dozen, put them all back and went home with a big smile. For a fish so fragile, they can be amazingly resilient. Hopefully, we get some water this month and we can have some great fall season fishing. Early season scouting for deer, late season fishing...what a great time of year.
