Went out to buy a Ruger .223 varmit and ended up with a Tikka T3 hunter. I know the Ruger is a shooter but for hunting dogs I am sure the Tikka will do just fine. I am putting a Baush & Lomb 6x24. I bre sighted it tonight and will start breaking it in tommorow.
Hopefully I will get on the dogs before the end of the year.

regnar: do you know where the coyotes den up or where their home territories are in your area? Cold calling is one big mistake eastern hunters make when goin after yotes.
You can save alot of time and frustration if you try to locate their home territories at night.
Howling is the best way to do this. Coyotes out here, most times will only vocalize to protect their den sites. More often than not they will not protect hunting grounds or anything else. So, if you get a vocal response at night, chances are it is their home teritory and thats where you want to hunt them.
Try it after 9 at night and see what happens. If you get a vocal response, try to get back in there as close to where you think they were when they sounded off. Good luck!!!

Yea, I have about 6 spots were I know there are dens in NH and at least 2 in ME. THe first spot in nh is going to be one of my deer stands. I took two with a bow early seaon and continued to see them all year. I have not hunted that stand in a 3 weeks or so in the AM so I will give it a try.
Do you get out around the Manchester area?

yeah, I got a couple of spot that have produced before but recently have dropped off.
I think the heavy rains killed some off the pups this year!
it has been hard with the warm weather so far this fall/winter.
