I bought a new boat at the end of last season. I need to get some saltwater rods and reels. I also need lures and basic tackle. can anyone direct me on where I can go to get the right stuff? Thanks in advance.

What part of the state do live Scout? If you're near Manchester I'd go to Wildlife Taxidermy and Sport Shop off of Rt. 101, I believe it exit 1. If you near the seacoast, I'd drive up to Maine and try Kittery Trading Post. I've never been up there for fishing tackle but do know they have a large fishing department down stairs. As far as their customer service and if they know what their talking about? I don't know. Sorry

kittery is pretty clueless, they have a large inventory, but the only dept. you'll get any help is in the fly fishing section and I have suspect about that. Surfland on Plum Island specializes in salt water goodies and that's all they do. You'll get good advice and good service there, just go and tell them what you need or what type of fishing you intend to do. I run a charter boat here in NH. and if you need information PM me and I'll be glads to help. DD

I like Surfland! Every time I'm in there, they are always very helpful with all my dumb questions I throw at them. What do you mainly fish for or is up to your clients? I've been after stripers now since I moved up here but only hauled in two that were keepers. As good as they are I wish I could land a lot more! My wife and I might just have to book something this early summer with you as well. What have you found to be the best time for striper! BIG stripers ;D I've got a 16ft deep-v that my Father gave to me but am too scared to put it in the Merrimack or Piscataqua River on my own. I've had it two years now so until my boating experience and confidence grows! I can only fish it from my friends boat.

DD's right about Surfland. We spend a lot of time running up and down the coast looking for strippers and they're a great place for information. We use 10wt. fly rods so our casting range is a little limited, we need pretty specific info on shoreline structure and local current habits. Surfland will actually tell you where to go and it will be good information. I've found that a lot of tackle shops, mostly fly guys, (Kennebec Anglers are you listening?) are very secretive about "their" spots and try to steer you somewhere else. How is that good for business?! Plus, they're overpriced, snooty, perrier swilling, volvo driving, milk-toast egalitarians who would rather stand around and pose in their Simms surf jackets than actually go out and use them...Oh no, soapbox...out of closet, must put back... aaarrrrrgggggg.

Sorry. No cream for my coffee this morning, had to use 2% milk. How come the older I get, the harder it is to keep my mouth shut?

Hey MK-M-GOBL you just aren't doing the fish dance right i guess. thats why you don't get the big ones. The boat should be in the water this year. I think it is all fixed up, give me a call and we willl go.

Suds-n-Soda in Greenland has a nice fishing/hunting store, they also are more than willing to help you out on fishing locations and tactics. They can be a little pricey, but its worth it for the info they give you. ;D

I went to Surfland this past weekend. They do have a lot of gear. I didn't get a chance to talk with anyone the place was real busy. I'm going to try Suds-N-Soda this weekend.

Well, I went to Suds-n-Soda and got hooked up with some nice rods and reels for striper fishing. They were very helpful on where to fish. One of them has his boat at the same place I launch mine. He gave me some good info. Can't wait for the striper's to arrive.
