Is this true? If so who made this decision? I know they need money but raffling off moose permits is wrong. Any body have any info.

It was suggested by Govern Lynch to help Fish & Game raise money to get out of the hole they put themselves in. I believe it has already taken some heavy criticism by the public and was actually shut down before it could even be discussed any further. I thought I heard that Vermont has done it with great success and he was hoping F&G might consider the idea to help out with their problems. That's all I know and all I'm going to say about it A lot of you know my feelings about our wonderful F&G Department

I read that he wanted to raffle off 50 permits(I think I read it in the march issue of the hawkeye)and that didn't go over well considering many people have been trying for years to get a permit.I can see maybe one or two but not 50.

Yeah, I just read that in the Hawk eye last night . I sure wish I had a state wide delivered publication or magazine so I can bash any politician that I didn't vote for or disliked That article is nothing but a John Lynch hanging by the Hawk eye writer(s). In fact after reading their article, I lost a lot of respect for the Hawk eye and how they report news. Anything they write and I read from now on will have to be looked into by other sources before I believe it. I didn't read or hear anything in the news (other than what Hawk eye wrote and wants you to believe) that Lynch was making it into a law! Or that he would AUCTION off moose permits EVERY year. I heard it on Channel 9 WMUR news that he only suggested it to F&G. That suggestion was to save their butts because they don't know how to manage the department or manage funds. Look at the links below from respected news journalist. Here's what the issues is really all about and why so many feel it's so wrong! "There are still many New Hampshire citizens who have been waiting these past 19 years for a chance to hunt a New Hampshire moose but they have had no luck. Now this pool of available moose permits will be decreased each year if our Governor has his way"Another part of that article from the Hawk eye I wish to quote. "Representative Gene Chandler, a long-time sportsman from Bartlett stated it best when he called the Governor's plan to auction 50 moose permits "reprehensible." I for one, along many others I have spoken with totally agree with Representative Chandler, who went on to say, "after moose what will we be selling or auctioning, deer, bear, or possibly a few chipmunks?"Hell! What do you think all F&G and DNR around the country do every year when they raise the license cost or permits fees! THEY ARE SELLING WILDLIFE! My big issue with NH F&G is, they're selling something they don't have! Read this link for more on that subject and on Lynch. It's a great MUST article!!! mainehuntingtoday.com/bbb/?p=1686Here are a few links from respected news sources you should read before joining the Hawk eyes political views on this issue! No where in these links does it mention about Lynch signing this into a law or that it’s to be done every year like the article from the Hawkeye states. Each of these links states in the first paragraph, “his proposal” “his idea” and “Lynch had suggested”. If you wish to see more articles on the issue, do a search for “auction off moose permits”. I wish the Hawkeye would report it right and quit taking things out of context! It’s not the end of the world or “our wildlife” like you want your readers to believe. www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17311335/ www.wlbz2.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=53382 www.portsmouthherald.com/news/special/022407special1.htm

The plan died. Auctioning off 50 was dumb, auctioning off tags is pretty common out west, but it is usually done on a once in a lifetime tag. To auction off 50 means it wouldn't take all that much money to get one. If they really were interested in auctioning generating money they would auction off 1 or 2 tops, making the auctioned tag worth more. It would also have to be in the zone of the winners choice, or in the top trophy bull zone we have.
It was a suggestion from Lynch, mostly spurred by Perry not doing a good job making a case for getting budget money. He's now retiring.

I'd vote yes to auctioning off permits but 50 of them? no way! ME & VT only did 5 permits from what one of those articles stated. It even said the highest bid was something like $6,000 and the lowest winning bid was $600. Just looked it up and here's it is,
"While Maine and Vermont saw top bids exceed $10,000 for the first few permits, the lowest bids in each state were for less than $600. Neither state saw more than 20 bids. Combined proceeds in both states last year were $155,000 on 30 bids."
"Maine and Vermont also auction off moose hunting permits, but only five are auctioned off in each state."
