Skinned the buck with the Chevy S-10 yesterday. Been thinking about trying it for awhile. Since the last three I've skinned had ticks, and I no longer split the carcass or take the neck (on advice from wildlife biologists regarding CWD), it seemed like a good time to try it.
Laid the buck on a tarp, circumscribed the neck near the base and skinned it back to the shoulders, made a midline cut in the hide all the way up (I don't split the sternum nor pelvus in the field to keep him clean for the drag), cut the legs per usual and made cuts up the inside to the midline, sawed off the tail.
Put a small rock under the neck hide and tied a rope around it. Tied the buck to the tree, hooked up the truck and backed up slowly. Voila! Five minutes for the cuts, two minutes to hook him up, 20 seconds to skin him. Wrapped him in the tarp and dragged him to the rack. Clean, not much hair, lighter to hoist up.

At first I thought you had hit one with the truck ;D I'm glad you didn't! I've heard of that for years but never tried it. That's pretty cool it worked well for you ;D Wish you took photos of each step, that would have been cool to see. I actually just had a conversation about skinning deer the other day. A guy was trying to convince me to buy a skinning tripod rack he makes using a crank winch. The process he takes to get ready and actually use it seemed to be a lot of work and time consuming. Sounds like what you did it a lot easier than his tripod skinner he was describing to me. If I shoot one on Sunday, I'll make a bet with you! I'll have my deer skinned out and quartered in under 8 minutes ;D Maybe I should say 10 minutes instead! It's been a while since I did one ;D Thanks for the report on how the S-10 Skinnig went.

Skinning them warm is a lot easier, for sure. I've never been able to, for one reason or another. It was pretty slick. You get one, I'll put the stopwatch on you! Actually, between us, we can probably skin it in 20 minutes, two guys making twice the work and all.
