A lot of good deals are to be had at canoe shops. they take canoes in on trade and if they dont turn them quick you can often get them really cheap. Also, you can buy used rentals really cheap although you probably will have to do some minor repairs on the hull...skid plates or something. I wouldn;t worry too much about canoes in the sun, it would take a real long time to break down poly or royalex. I have to keep mine in the sun for a few hours a day so I keep it coated with 303 uv protectant spray.

Thanks for the help guys! I decided to buy new at dicks, that way I know it will be stored properly (i.e. not in the sun). They have a nice old town saranac I have been looking at. Probably pick it up this week.
I have an "almost" new Old Town Pack that I may sell. It'll come with a wood and web seat back (removable) and a Scotty rod holder base. 12 foot, 33lb solo canoe. Still deciding if I want to part with her...awesome fishing and duck boat but I may just do it. Excellent shape and always stored indoors, properly resting on the gunwales.
ec...there's a canoe in my town for sale that I'll post up a photo of as soon am I'm home. It might be out of your price range and not exactly what you're looking for but I thought I'd let you know about it.
Well ec like I said, it’s not really want you were looking for but I thought I’d still let you know in case your search has chanced what you’re looking for FYI...that's my note about the number on the bottom of the paper taped to the canoe.
