wondering where people go to hunt crows before the cornfields are cut. thinking of trying to take my lab puppy out for preseason practice, and from what i hear it is much like waterfowl hunting.

I haven't been at this crow thing very long but I am seeing them in decent numbers on freshly cut hayfields. Even more numbers if there is fresh manure on them. Just make sure you hide really well and I personally would make sure that any bird I sent my dog after was good and dead. I have had them bite my gloved hand when I went out to pick up wounded crows.

I like hunting em in the corn, great cover...but fields...I hunt em over water too...swamps..any open space...as maxusCK sez Id make sure your pup dont get chomped by a wounded one they r pretty feisty haha...they love fresh cut hay fields...chopped up animals..grasshoppers,etc...those are good spots to bring both the rifle and the shotgun.

Ooops...badly written...I love hunting em in fields...with shotgun or rifle...def like sitting on fields with a rifle and snipin em..slower then shotgun but mighty fun...been seein alot of birds..the young dumb birds born this year often come in close and very aggressive in the early part of the season..later on they are dead or smart !

Well, you were right NG! The young dumb ones came in hot and angry today. Dumped 6 total for the day but 4 went down into some thick brush and I didn't feel like getting soaked to go pick up their bodies

Thats the ticket!,,they look pretty lightly feathered...I find the best times are the young dumb ones early on and then the big flocks in the fall, the more crows the more aggressive, those r the same owl n crow decoys I use!

Maxus what choke is that your using on your gun in the pic?..I always used modified but last year left my turkey choke in and really liked it and left it in all season..think I am going to go with it again this season.

Nasty, that is a Browning Cylinder Choke. My personal theory is to spread out shot as far as I can. I suck at long shots anyways so why not give myself an advantage when the birds are close?

I have used everything from turkey tube to skeet lol...I use a polychoke too sometimes and change the choke to meet the conditions. I am gunna load up on .410 this year and try n bag one with my contender or super comanche pistols.
