My gun is ready, my gear is ready & I'm ready to drop something in the morning....and I don't mean a early bomb ;D I made it up to the range yesterday to fix my adjustments from trying new powder & sabots. It's dialed back in now I'll be hunting with Jake tomorrow evening so I do believe I'll be starting out with the bow opening morning of the smoke-pole season. Crazy I know but I've got my reasons. Poor Jake has been asking me to take him hunting in his new stand ever since I got it & set it up. I'd hate to be out there in the morning & have a nice buck walk by with the smoke-pole & have to drop him before I get Jake out there. I figure if I've got the bow than I can use that tag to save my gun tag. We'll see...a lot of time from now until my alarm goes off so that plan might get scratched I didn't mention this before but last Sunday we walk to his stand to sit in it & check out the view. As we got in & opened up the windows, I looked down on the floor of the stand & found a candy wrapper It was only one Mini-Reese's cup wrapper so maybe it was just someone checking out the stand or set up. I just hope I don't go there & find someone hunting from it! That will not be good Good luck everyone! Don't just hunt smart...hunt safe

I find myself excited as well...but the reality is, I've only seen one deer during the bow season that I would have needed the muzzle loader for. Its been so quite here. Most days I go without seeing anything.
The only thing I'm hoping for is to have more hunters running around getting the deer moving during daylight.

I'm far from ready... No smokepole, so I've still got a few days. I'm not sure how much time or energy/desire I'm going to have to deer hunt this fall though- the new house (and WORK) is taking waaaaay too much of my time and energy. I had hoped to have a load worked up for the Mauser before we moved, but wasn't able to do so- I swapped out the trigger last winter and I think there's bedding issues with the stock now. The Remmy 700 could be used, but I haven't shot it in a couple of years. My Contender .44 carbine is the plan, but I still need to get it sighted in since I didn't get a good load worked up for it either and I just found a box of factory that I know it likes a week or two ago. Oh, and I gotta take apart the deck on the house to fix the flashing, put joist hangers on it, fix a small water leak, build bookshelves in the office downstairs, finish trimming out a door, the list hasn't gotten much shorter in the last month. Hi, my name is Dan, and I'm living the American dream.

Just when I think I need to find another spot to hunt I see something. Unfortunately it was a doe and it was when I first opened up the door to the car. Other than that it was plenty quiet out there today. Saw a few other hunters but not much for deer especially once the wind kicked up.
Hope my luck is better tomorrow...I'm needing something for the freezer.
