It’s time to start thinking about making my next purchase. I’ve wanted to add a slug gun to my safe & now I believe I’ve got it. I saw this gun being tested on the “outdoor porn channel” about month or so ago. I’ve liked what I’ve been reading about the Savage 220F. These photos are from a guy in NC that was giving a review & will be writing up range review real soon. I just hope that when I see & shoulder this gun that it fits like a glove If anyone see in a shop, please let me know so I can check it out

Massabesic taxidermy has one or had one anyway. I have not been in there for a week or so. It is a real nice looking gun. I will stop today if I get a chance and let you know.

Ok, I gotta ask- why is it that you want a slug gun? Having hunted many years in Indiana with a slug gun when it was the only thing legal other than muzzleloaders, I have no desire to ever use one again. There's a myriad of reasons to choose things other than slug guns and the only reason to consider one is if you are hunting an area that allows only those types of guns. Trust me, at $3 or more per shot, you won't shoot it much. And the recoil isn't pleasant either. I'll shoot my .44 mag Contender carbine all day long, have essentially the same ballistics and will walk away at the end of the day with a heavier wallet and an arm that isn't flopping in the wind, unlike if you do the same with a slug gun.
Hmmm, what if it I put it this way.... I'd sooner become a Patriots fan than buy a slug gun! Does that express my dislike for what you are looking at any better? ;D Absolutely no offense meant with anything I've said here, Tom, but I am curious to know why you are wanting one.

Living in MD, I know all about the shotgun only hunting. For years I used my muzzle loader in place of the slug gun hunting & loved it I use to say I can shoot further & more accurate back then but now a days with the guns & ammo they are putting out, it's right up there with in-lines. I now hunt a few spots where it's shotgun or muzzle loader only. I'm just tired of using my muzzle loader in those areas either due to it being pretty thick or wanting the option for quicker follow up shots. Not to mention that keeping my powder in my muzzle loader for days & days not knowing it it will even fire is getting old As you can tell hunting around here isn't like hunting in ID, MD, PA or even NY. So it's not like I can wait for the morning to kill something I know, I can fire the gun off or pull the lead & clean it but it so much easier to just pop the clip & eject a shell

I personally support any and all excuses to pad the gun safe! Take a long look at 20 gauge as well as I understand they are very accurate and still plenty lethal. They do kick but that's what a lead sled is for. I think the advent of the lead sled has done a ton for reducing flinch and developing an accurate load. You'll never notice the recoil when you are in the field shooting at live game. Do these come with fiber sites? Are mounts included? Just something to consider if you need to add optics to the price of the package. With my older eyes I now have resigned myself to good optics on most anything. Take a look at this scope as I'm thinking of adding one to my muzzleloader. www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=172819Good luck finding one soon!

FWIW, I switched over to a 20 gauge in Indiana the last 2-3 years I gun hunted there. The gun was much lighter and seemed easier to carry than the 12 gauge, the accuracy was as good or better. The recoil was probably the same or a bit less than the 12, and for the distances I was shooting it really didn't matter which I had. As I recall I was using Lightfields. I think I only killed one deer with that gun, but I never felt undergunned with it.
The best thing Indiana did for gun hunting was to allow things other than shotguns and muzzleloaders. You still can't use just any old centerfire rifle, but the options are much better now than 5 years ago.
