I've had in a while. I heard a total of 7 shots in the area I was in. Talked to two hunters that both shot yearling's that I let walk by me with their mother. There’s a little longer story about those two meat heads but I’m going to post that one Let’s just say my secluded bow hunting spot wasn’t so secluded!
For my evening hunt I got in at 4 My butcher really messed up my timing. I wasn't even 25 yards from my truck on the foot path / logging trail when I was greeted by another hunter with his gun shouldered and pointing at the ground. “Oh you scared me! I thought you were a deer but you’re too big because it was just a little doe”. What the hell? I’m not even 100 feet from my truck and here’s a guy hunting! It’s also a real good thing that I’m not a small guy or maybe he would have shot me in my orange hat and hooded orange sweatshirt! I tell him where I’m heading and he tells me he’ll stay away from there and that there’s a guy and a kid off the right of where I was heading.
As I get close to my ladder stand I see something that has me wondering what I'm seeing. It turns out it’s the kid sitting in my stand. As soon as I could see the base of the stand, there’s the guy getting up and walking towards me. Before he said anything, I tore into him nicely by saying if that kid wasn’t sitting in my stand right now that he would walking out of here with a new a-hole!
He apologized and motioned for the kid to get down. Before he got all the way down I told the guy to stay there and that the kid could hunt my stand. I’ll find another place to hunt what little time I had left. I also added, I sure hope he thinks twice next time before climbing into someone’s stand! I was pissed but it wouldn't have done the stand for that evening any good by kicking them out and having them walking around looking for somewhere new. I knew the woods so I did the walking Not a happy opening day for this hunter.
TC, I’m sure if Dad heard about this, I’d probably be in the wrong and should check myself for getting upset about someone hunting from a ladder stand I carried in 400 yards and worked hard setting up I was thinking hard about posting the story over there and direct a question right to him about it.
