How many here hunt squirrel? I grew up hunting these little tree rats almost exclusively. Anybody else still hunt them?

I went out a few times this year. Got a few gray sqrirrels, no reds. What do you do with them after you kill them? I kept the tails for fly tying, but that was it.

One of my friends swears by squirrel hunting as better than deer hunting etc. He's a pretty normal guy other than the fact he eats them. He did this in front of an old girlfriend of mine years ago, she freaked out when he brought two fur-stripped, well done little squirrel bodies out of the oven and began to naw on them. I'm convinced he did it for the reaction. He's now into squirrel stew. I think hunting the squirrels would be fun, but I'm personally not into eating them.

Fried squirrel or cooked with gravy & dumplings is good!!! I grew up hunting them but haven't been in years. Only problem I have with squirrel is they're a pain in the butt to skin! We use to hunt them using shotgun. Walk through the woods and went you found one, you would circle the tree looking to get a head shot. Sometimes you need you're hunting buddy to walk around to get them to move to your side of the tree for a shot. Or if they found a V in the tree or limb and hide on ya. We never shot into nest! Put if you had one jumping tree top to tree top trying to get to one, he was fair game and we'd be blasting away ;D The last time I ever went, my good friend Raymond showed up at my house with a scoped 22. I told him we were hunting squirrels not fox. He just looked at me funny and said, "I know! that's why I brought my 22". He would hunt them by just sitting at the base of oak tree and pick them off in the head as he saw them. Now to me that was crazy! I was brought up you never shoot a rifle in the air ESPECIALLY a .22!!! He hunted them the way he was taught and did it as I was taught and at the end of the day, he had a lot more dead squirrels than me To boot me in the rear a little more that day, his weren't weighted down with lead like mine If anyone ever wants to go? I'll join ya as long as you skin the one I kill! ;D

I grew up shooting into the tops of trees with my .22 savage but my closest neighbor was 3/4 a mile away. Now I will only shoot up if I got a tree trunk behind the squirrel.

My son and I went and started our 2007 turkey scouting season Sunday morning. Man did I see a lot of grey squirrels! Every where we went, I saw them. I usually don't see that many here in NH. I see a ton red squirrels while hunting but hardly any grey ones. Their probably like all the other animals we hunt. The day the season opens on them they disappear or you only see them while driving

I got a couple grays this year. I even took 1 with my pellet rifle. I was pretty excited about that. I don't do that much squirrel hunting anymore. I just use it to fill the time until Duck opens. I just might do more this year.

I used to hunt them with my dad. My dad grew up in WV hunting them for food with his dad. We used to go when I was to little to do anything else. Have to say that everyone I ate tasted just fine.

most guys use .22 or .17 hummers, shotguns ruin alot of meat.

I may take the shotgun out and bag some squirrels anyway this weekend or something...we'll see if I can find some geese instead, if not, the squirrels will feel my rage!
