Went out checking on deer this evening and found a wood chuck out in the field of a farm I hunt. I have permission to shot on sight so Ii grabbed the range finder and the .17 from the back seat got out and set up. 130 yards. Put the cross hairs on him and..POW.. dead wood chuck.
I got back in and drove up to the farm to check the back fields and was going to throw the wood chuck in the bushes on my way back through. But when I was done and coming down the road what was sitting right next to the dead wood chuck? Two crows. Got out and slid down the stone wall to what I figured would be about 100 yards. I slid my rifle up over the stone wall and...POW.... Now there was a dead crow laying next to the dead wood chuck.
This was about 6:30 so I left them there and took a ride around to a few other fields and then went back to the farm. What is out there but another wood chuck. This one was closer than the first so I drove up to the farm house and got out and slid back down the stone wall the same way as I had done for the crow. I got to the same place and peaked over the wall and the wood chuck was eating right next to his hole about 80 yards away. Got set up and ...POW... another dead wood chuck!!!!
Well I decided to leave them there and will head back there at first light. I figure I may get a chance at a coyote cruising or another crow. If not I will throw them in the bushes. (yes I told the farmer that I was leaving them there)
If they are still there I will take pictures of them and post.
