Does anyone make their own turkey calls? I made a slate call using parts from a Kentucky company called Custom Sawing. It didn't take too long to make and sounds pretty good. Killed two birds using it last spring www.customsawing.comAnyone else making calls?

I did a "Secret Santa" on another board this past Christmas and gave the member two slate calls from Custom Calling. He made them with his son which turned out to be a good time and the calls turned out pretty good as well.
He told me his was better looking but his sons call was better sounding ;D I kept the guys order information in case I wanted to give making one to a try.

I've started making my own friction type Pot calls this spring and it has been a lot of fun. I've been a regular on the Custom Calls Online message board and Larry, Andy & Kevin (all listed with their banners above) visit there regularly and have been a great help to my getting started.
I've made 30 calls so far and have sold 20 of them already. I've been doing woodworking for the last 20 or so years and just got a lathe a couple of years back to turn pens for the Freedom Pen Project to send pens to the troops in Iraq and since I like to turkey hunt and have a wood shop with lots of scrap cutoff's I wanted to do somethign with it was a natural fit.
I'm calling my calls "VT Tom Taker Calls". I have been getting the glass for my calls from the local glass shop and I've gotten my slate from Tim Sandford (Rut 'n' Strut Game Calls) - another great callmaker over at the other site.
Here's a few sites that carry parts for making Pot Calls.
CustomSawing.com Grassycreekcalls.com brooksidegamecalls.com woodhavenmaine.com
I hope I was able to help you. This is a great hobby that kinda pays for itself.

Kurt,
I'm curious as to where you think the best place would be to get slate and glass for friction calls? Is buying locally cheaper than some of the on-line places? Do they cut the glass to exact diameter (3", 3.5", etc.)?
Thanks, Rob
