Those are great looking photos. Is that a scent marking tree? Noticed all the dead green on the lower limbs. What do you think same coyote or 2 or 3 dogs? I would be grabbing Buddy and hitting that spot. Are you night hunting at all? What calls - caller you using. Sounds too! Ditto on the luck. Highwaystar

Highwaystar, I actually dumped a can of tunafish (in oil) at that spot under the tree. That was before all the new snow. The coyote surprised me; I was expecting something along the lines of a fishercat or an ermine. The new snow sort of hides everything. The beaver pond looks more like a clearing on the edge of a swamp. The brown stuff under the tree is actually swamp grass. It's real thick all around that area, but the area holds a lot of rabbits. We usually go after 'em during the day with a couple of hand calls, a squeaker call, a Minaska Bandit electronic call, and a motion decoy, but these yotes up here are really tough to hunt. A retired game warden up Groveton way traps quite a few each year, a homeowner I know who lives a few miles out of town baits his back yard, waits for them to come out at night and picks off a few each year from his back deck. Apart from the few that are shot up here by deer hunters during the season, these dogs have a knack of avoiding the predator hunter and everything we throw at them. This particular coyote appears to be alone, but one set of pics was taken at 1:45 am and then again a 7:30am so I'm thinking it's probably not far from it's bedding or denning area.

I have the same kind of spot, Beaver dam and a stream running through. I moved my tree stand there this year in hopes to get a shot. The sign is there and I have located them at night with my WT ecaller. Just not getting there at the same time. I'll be in the stand Thursday morning early. I have been trying to be on stand 1/2 hour before shooting time all set up. At 15 minutes before shooting time I play Dominant male group rally howl to see if they are in the area. 5 minutes before shooting time I will play female mating howls. At legal light play female howls then go to pup distress 3 minutes later and let it play. I have a adults hunting whines sound and I will try that this setup and see what happens. Dan has been playing whines and Estrus Chirps, has been having good luck with it. This is our first year using this sort of sound. We shot one last Friday using those sounds. Have you been using female sounds at all? Can you down load sounds to your Minaska Bandit electronic call? If, so I can have Dan give you the link to get Estrus Chirps and soem Female Whimpers. That is a good looking coyote. Need to get him or her in the crosshairs. Highwaystar
