Well there’s one less turkey killer running the woods of NH today. Not going to get into the whole morning hunt which was awesome even though I didn’t get a shot. Learned a lot about where I’m hunting. Anyways, I left the woods around 8:30 to try and get into the turkeys I spotted yesterday and came across a coyote crossing an open field away from the road I was on. I stopped the truck down the road from him and put on a quick stalk to see if I could get him in my scope. Well I got on him and wasn’t sure if I wanted to take the shot seeing he was a long way out. I gave a loud bark to stop him and when he did I settled the crosshairs on him and let it rip. Heard a loud thud and watched the coyote leap and flip in his tracks. My Remington 700 Mountain rifle in the 280 found its mark at least 200 yards! I’m sure it was probably over 200 yards but until I get my range finder back over there to check it, I’m going with 200 yards. Looking at the frost track in the field grass and the blood, he never went more than 5 feet from where he was standing. I’m glad to know that after the head/neck shot on the VT grouse with the 30-30 peep sight and now this one day, I still have it when it comes to shooting. I’ll have some photos later today to post up. Well here his is He tipped the digital scale at 38.13lbs

Thanks I'm very proud with the shot I made. He took a ride alright, a permanent ride! For me that’s one with the bow (running I might add ), one with my Ruger 22 Hornet (even though a few so called experts would say isn’t good enough round for coyotes), one with my Benelli SBE II and one with my Remington 280. The next dead one for me will be with one shot from my Ruger 223 Of course once I get it dialed in and driving tacks. Oh, I forgot to mention where the shot was. The shot entered just to the left of his right shoulder and exited out his stomach on the right side. When I barked to stop him, he turned offering me a front quartering shot. After the shot with the thud I heard, I assumed I pulled the shot and made a gut shot. However, with him only going 5 feet and dying, a gut shot was out of the question.

Well Jake and I walked into the field this morning and ranged off a 218 yard poke on that turkey/deer killer. Masshntr, when I called you and told you 223 yards, I took that from where he laid dead and not where he was standing when I shot. I also had to use my truck to get a true yardage reading with my range finder and forgot to minus that off the 223 yard reading as well I drove into the field and got as close to the sappling as I could with my truck so I figured 3 yards to the sappling and 2 yards for the distance he went after the shot. Sorry for the wrong information bud
