So here in NH its gettin mighty chilly...still havent had any HUGE flocks that Ive seen...I have been getting small groups of 1,2,3,4,5 birds coming in...the owl in the pic that I use often does get the birds attention....sometimes gets them really worked up...Ive had birds bomb it without even using the caller...BUT, being a thinking man and keen observer of nature...I very seldom see any type of owl out in the daytime...BUT just this last week 3 times I have seen crows chasing big redtail hawks...or the hawks moving in on the crows when they are responding to the caller...had one hawk screaming loud as he was circling over the crows...Im thinking the crows would be more aggressive and familiar with the hawk...being a daytime hunter and denizen of fields and farms where the crows usually are found...to that end I am going to look around for a hawk decoy...preferably a big red tail hawk decoy...I am then going to load the red tail hawk scream into my FX3 Foxpro and see how the black bandits react to it...Im thinking ill get more bang from the hawk!

great story nasty. I love it when they come so angry they don't even notice you. I did a couple stands today on the way home from work and whacked 2. I was using my new (to me) spartan coach gun in 20 gauge. Had one circle over and then land high up in a tree so I went to the mod choke and he was done for. The next stand I saw a couple in a field and snuck down the tree line and fired up the call. I had 6 come in, funny cuz I only counted 2 in the field. The first 2 flared high. 2 more came right in nice and low and I was able to tag the first one with the IC choke. I missed the second and the remaining two took off. It's no 5 bird day but better than none. What's your body count up to nasty?

When I made my coyote stand today, there was a big flock of crows up on the mountain making a heck of a racket. I was on the stand for over an hour and they never quieted down at all.
As far as crows diving at you, I tried crow hunting once in So Cal. We were in a farm field and there were hundreds of crows all over the ground. We walked right into the mix and they didn't budge. I had my 11-87 and my friend had a Benelli. We looked at each other and started yelling and stomping the ground. The crows took to the air and he nailed a couple with his Benelli. Before I got a chance to shoot the entire flock got together and started dive bombing him. They were pecking his head, his gun, his arms, legs, and whole body. They didn't even make a move at me at all. He shot until empty, then I shot 3 rounds over his head to drive them off, then we ran to the Blazer. No stitches needed but he had a lot of cuts.
I've always been afraid to shoot a crow since then.

omega, That sounds like heaven. All kinds of crows in range would be awesome! nasty, I only keep count to track of one year to the next. I like to know if I'm improving as the seasons go by.

Just go into any bean or produce field in central or southern CA. There are millions of crows out there. If I know how to post a photo here I'll put up photos of all the crows that attack my coyote bait all winter long. I've got like 3 photos of coyote, 1 fox, 30 of a fisher cat, and 990 of crows
