Anyone want to go coyote hunting? The only catch is we need some land with coyotes on it. All the areas I had last year that were over-run with yotes are completely barren this year. Last year you couldn't help but trip over sign - anything from footprints to dozens and dozens of scat piles. This year - nothing. Not even a footprint anywhere. So, if you know where there are some dogs and you want to go hunting, let me know. ;D I want to get a yote this year...

Don't worry Omega, that area might just be their winter grounds or something. They will come back. Lots food and water for them and they are off the hills and outta the wind.

That's just it - according to the landowner, they are usually there year round. He's more surprised than I am. Also, the deer are gone this year. Not a one on any of his game cams in 2 months. Last year in September we photographed over a dozen.
Saturday I'm going to start at the other end of the road and work up. I'm wondering if they haven't crossed the street and gone into the national forest.

In any case, we can't just rely on one spot, even if it is over 1000 acres. We need to find some new places.

with no snow on the ground, maybe they just changed their travel routes and bedding grounds.
Last winter we were seeing their tracks as we rode along and on that frozen swamp. Both easy, groomed travel routes. We really didn't see much off the trails that I can remember.
Even those that we jumped right before you drove us off that cliff, right off of the groomed trail.

You bastard!! Very cool pix. So, where did you say this field is? I made a stand today and using puppy distress cries, called in a flock of turkeys (dam things are everywhere) and a fisher cat. I don' think its legal to shoot a fisher this time of year so I just played with it a little and made it really confused. I had my stuffed puppy out in the field but the calls were via a mouth caller about 50 feet away. It couldn't decide which way to go. I'd make some quiet whimpers and it would come within 15 yards of me, then I'd stop and it would turn around and head for the puppy, then I'd call and it would turn around and head back to me again. A few more times and it had enough and scooted back into the woods. Wish I'd brought a camera or video setup.

Nah, Nah. I think I got this one right. He's tall and skinny. This thing was round and fat and kind of low to the ground.

My son and I spent the day snowmobiling around the 4000 acre parcel up in Ashland that we play on. Unlike last year, there isn't a sign of a yote or deer or anything else anywhere. No tracks along the trails or in any of the regular places where the deer and coyotes used to bed down and wander. Even the queen yote is gone. Not a sign of her anywhere. Again, just like in the fall, the only sign around are moose tracks.

Nuthin - we brought 3 sleds and radios and covered about 60 miles of trails and side trails from Ashland to Sandwich. Found a ton of deer and moose tracks but no coyotes at all.
