Has anybody gone out? My buddies and I accounted for 12 in the first 2 days of the season.

I went out tuesday evening on some private land that I had permission to hunt only to find out that someone had gone in there during the morning and shot some and scared the rest off. I'm heading back tonight hoping that after a couple days they'll have relaxed enough to return...if not, then saturday morning...we'll see.

What size choke do you use firepirate? Do you have decoys? We have some prime goose hunting land and we have more that our share of geese bothering us in the winter. Might have to get out sometime.

I use a MOD choke and 4 dekes. they work well on smaller flocks, have had a few times where they landed right in the decoys. Right now I'm just jump shooting. Goose is some of the best meat out there in my opinion.

I was out on some farm fields yesterday where I had seen some geese the week before but had since disappeared and the sneaky little bastards were about 200-300 feet from 4 houses of which two of them aren't hunter friendly...luckily the land spreads straight back. I tried herding them back so I could shoot them, but they flew off before they reached that point and I never got a shot.
I guess it's not really hunting chasing them down the field to shoot them, but the farmer wants them all gone and after walking through his fields and seeing what they do, I told him I'd help him out when they were in season. So I do some "pest" control and also get to hunt deer and turkey in his fields.

Yup, if the landowner wants to get rid of them then shoot 'em however you can. That was the deal with the geese on the pond we shot up the 1st 2 days of the season. Went out cornfield hunting last saturday and again on tuesday. got one on sat and 3 the 25th. I don't mind getting my first birds of the year jumpshooting on the water but nothing beats have them coming to your call and committed to your spread.
