It was a blast. Loose the hounds on the buggers and they chase the yotes all over hell and creation while we hike all over the countryside trying to predict where they'll turn up. VT has the right instincts and put me in the perfect spot. He came back to chat with me and as I told him they had just crossed the ridge from right to left and sounded like they were headed back left to right, a yote started walking along the top edge of a 40' ledge right in front of us. We both raised our rifles and aimed aimed, but his gun went off first so I let off my trigger. He wanted me to take a follow up shot, but it was his kill. That yote curled in a ball and rolled down the side of the ridge like the dying bad guy in an old western.
The beagle chased that sucker all the way down the ledge and when it hit bottom, started ripping the coyote sending fur flying everywhere. Man, those hunting beagles really hate coyotes. As VT dragged the yote the 1/4 mile back to the snowmobile trail, it was all I could do to hold the beagle back so it didn't go back to tearing up the coyote.
It was so cool to be part of this hunt. I can't wait for a chance to do it again.
Browning - photos on the way.

Calling a walker hound a beagle -- now THAT is funny! I'm laughing with you, and only somebody who runs hounds or grew up with them would think it's funny. Great hunt well told, fun read. Thanks.
Added: The first time I read the story I pictured this beagle chasing a coyote down the snow slope and though I thought that was odd running coyotes with a beagle, it was a vivid picture. Actually, I enjoyed that mental movie more than the corrected version with a Walker chasing the coyote. I was trying to figure out how a beagle would tear out so much hair. Sorry, just started laughing again. Great entertainment.

I sent him the photo. Haven't heard from him at all recently.
The snow is going to be cool. I wish I could come up again this weekend, but maybe the one after that. We've already got 3+ inches and the storm has just started here.
